Skin Treatments for Acne Treatments

Laser Acne Treatments

January 20th, 2010

The field of laser surgery has changed the horizon for many skin disorders especially acne. Scientist are constantly working on new laser acne treatments to deal with all types of acne prone skin from mild to severe.

Here is the summary of a study conducted by the Unit of Dermatology in the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London.  Which trials different color laser lights in the treatment of acne.

Summary of Laser Acne Treatments:

In this study we have evaluated the use of blue light (peak at 415 nm) and a mixed blue and red
light (peaks at 415 and 660 nm) in the treatment of acne vulgaris. One hundred and seven patients
with mild to moderate acne vulgaris were randomized into four treatment groups: blue light, mixed
blue and red light, cool white light and 5% benzoyl peroxide cream. Subjects in the phototherapy
groups used portable light sources and irradiation was carried out daily for 15 min. Comparative
assessment between the three light sources was made in an observer-blinded fashion, but this could
not be achieved for the use of benzoyl peroxide. Assessments were performed every 4 weeks. After
12 weeks of active treatment a mean improvement of 76% (95% confidence interval 66±87) in
inflammatory lesions was achieved by the combined blue±red light phototherapy; this was
significantly superior to that achieved by blue light (at weeks 4 and 8 but not week 12), benzoyl
peroxide (at weeks 8 and 12) or white light (at each assessment). The final mean improvement in
comedones by using blue±red light was 58% (95% confidence interval 45±71), again better than
that achieved by the other active treatments used, although the differences did not reach significant
levels. We have found that phototherapy with mixed blue±red light, probably by combining
antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action, is an effective means of treating acne vulgaris of mild to
moderate severity, with no significant short-term adverse effects.

How To Pop Zits Properly

January 10th, 2010

Although it is always a good idea to not pop your zits and or pimples in order to avoid scarring, it is understandable that it is not always possible to resist popping and for some it is down right impossible. So if you really must pop your pimples, make sure you do it the right way.

Tools you will need

  1. Alcohol
  2. Needle and matches
  3. Soap and water
  4. Cotton ball
  5. Cotton swab

Knowing when a pimple is ready to be popped

The pimple is ready to be popped when it has formed a little white head. This is when all the pus has accumulated into a small pocket and is all set to be discharged. If the pimple does not have a white head then by all means leave it alone! it is not ready and you can make things worse by enlarging it or turning it into a cyst.

Method for successful zit popping

  1. Wash you hands and the affected area with soap
  2. Sterlize the needle by passing it through a match flame
  3. Use a cotton ball silled with alcohol to wipe the needle with making sure you remove all the black.
  4. Use another cotton ball dipped in alcohol to wipe over the pimple and surrounding area.
  5. Take the needle and press it ever so gently over the area where the white pus is visible. Create a tiny prick to open it. And that should work if the pimple was ready to be popped.
  6. Use a clean cotton ball to put even pressure all around the outside to let the pus out.

After Popping Treatment

  1. Clean the area with a cotton ball and apply some type of alcohol based antiseptic drying lotion like salicylic acid, witch hazel or benzoyl peroxide.
  2. Let the pimple dry out without covering it up.

Making Your Own MSM and Aloe Vera Lotion

February 8th, 2009

You can either go out there and purchase your MSM lotion from a health food store or you can easily make your own providing you have pure MSM flakes on you and Pure Aloe Vera Gel.

There are so many creams out on the market that claim to do all types of things, anti ageing, scar removal, acne fighting, etc. To me the best crem I have ever put on my face and body has been this cream that I made myself. It is cheap and effective especially when combined with the internal consumption of MSM.

MSM and Aloe Vera Gel Lotion

The easiest recipe is to combine MSM with Pure Aloe Vera gel. Keep in mind that 3 x rounded teaspoons of MSM Crystal Flakes is about 15 grams of MSM.

What you will need:

  • MSM Crystal Flakes - 15 grams for every 100mls of Aloe Vera Gel
  • Pure Aloe Vera Gel - 100mls (or more if you want to make more)

Process:

  • Mix 3 rounded teaspoons of MSM for ever 100 mls  of pure Aloe Vera gel in a bowl.
  • Mix it well and let it sit for about 30 minutes so the MSM flakes dissolve into the Aloe Vera gel.
  • Don't add more MSM than the amount stated as it will become saturated and go clumpy.
  • Pour the mixture into a suitable container (an old washed out cream tub is good).
  • Use is as frequently as you feel is necessary.
