But here I am now and ready to start a NEW challenge!

The MSM Challenge!

Feb 9th 2011
I started taking MSM in tablet form straight into 3mg a day and I am going to work my way up to about 20mg a day. I will then document any changes whether positive or negative that I experience.

My main aim is to improve the condition of my skin. I want to see if it is possible to actually improve the appearance of old scars, stretch marks, acne scars and whether it works in eliminating pimples.

So far today is the forth day into this regime. Yesterday I had a horrific headache and I think that was due to the msm and toxins being flushed out of my system + not drinking enough water. Today I started by drinking about two glasses of water before taking the msm and drinking a lot throughout the day and so far no headache.

My skin has broken out in quite a few zits on my face and a few on my back, I believe this too shall soon pass, it is nothing too unbearable.

I workout at the gym about three times a week lifting weights and I have not had very sore muscles like usual after my workout so this is a nice little benefit. I am also taking a Vitamin C and Zinc supplement along with the MSM.

That's all for now,

Feb 27th 2011
Still taking the MSM. I bought the MSM online and also picked up some Ester C from the local health food shop. I am now taking 2 teaspoons of MSM daily along with about half a teaspoon of Ester C. I increased the dosage over a period of 3 weeks and I only ever take it at night with a full glass of water because I was getting terrible headaches. This way by the time I wake up the headache business is all over.

I have also made MSM and Aloe Gel for my skin (here is the recipe: MSM Gel). It is so cheap and easy to make! I apply this to my face and all over my body every night too! I have just been doing this for the past 2 days.

Changes to my skin:

The skin on my face is clearer than ever before. After an initial outburst of pimples and zits where I got heaps, especially on my back (which I don't normally get) and almost made me stop doing this altogether. It gradually died down and within the last week I have not had any new ones. My skin feels smoother and although all scars remain the same it appears as though the texture of the skin is more refined, like more light reflects of my skin, making it appear like it has a bit of a glow. On the week leading up to my menstrual cycle I always get about 3 to 4 big internal zits (tmi sorry folks), anyway I am in that week now and I have NO zits! so that in itself is a huge bonus for me.

The MSM Challenge is a post from: Treatments For Your Skin

Related posts:

Making Your Own MSM and Aloe Vera Lotion

MSM and Beautiful Skin

Stretch Mark and Exfoliation Method – 1 Month Later

Top 10 Bride Beauty Tips

Do It Yourself Skin Treatments

General Treatments

Skin Tips

dry skin

exfoliation

face

skin

If you have an upcoming wedding, event, photo shoot, or simply want to look good going to the grocery store, the following tips are for you! Following these tips will allow your skin to be as prepared as possible as well as recover easily from the daily rigors of looking beautiful!

1. SKIN CARE

I cannot stress the importance of taking care of your skin. Start a simple skin care routine at least 2 months prior to your wedding/event and stick with it. If your budget allows it, get monthly facials to rejuvenate and deep clean your skin. Ideally, it’s best to begin receiving facials six months prior to your wedding/event to up to a week prior to your wedding/event.

2. MOISTURIZE MUST, MUST, MUST!

Skin that lacks moisture will have a dull and dry appearance. Moisturized skin looks and feels the best, makeup settles into the skin beautifully, and it minimizes the appearance of pores. A good moisturized face will help you achieve that supple, dewy look that is so beautiful! The best moisturizers have the least amount of ingredients/chemicals. If you're using acne products, you can still use a great natural moisturizer over your acne product. Let the product settle in the skin for about 15 minutes and then layer your moisturizer on top.

3. EXFOLIATE

A face that hasn't been exfoliated will not absorb moisture properly and will not be a good canvas for makeup application. Exfoliate at least 1-2 times per week. If you do not have an exfoliating product in mind, I personally prefer M.A.C. Cosmetics Microfine Refinisher.

4. FACIAL WAXING

If you are going to wax (especially before your wedding/event), keep in mind what it does to your skin. Wax tends to take the first layer of your skin off along with the hair and at times even causes a rash. Foundation has a hard time adhering to skin that is freshly waxed. With that said, if you are going to get any type of facial waxing done, do so a week in advance. Once you arrive, I will be more than happy to tweeze the stray hairs that have since grown to ensure a smooth, sleek look.

5. FACIALS

DO NOT get a facial less than a week before your wedding/event. Facials are meant to deep clean your pores and bring all dirt, oil, and toxins to the surface for easy removal. Because of that, some people experience flare-ups, bumps, or redness right after the facial. Allow at least a week for your skin to recover prior to your wedding/event.

6. STRESS RELIEF

If you want to glow, you need to feel it. Begin a stress relief program six months prior to the date. Take time out to do something non-wedding/event related. Do yoga, read, exercise; anything you enjoy to put your mind at ease and keep stress to a minimum.

7. CONSULTATIONS

Make sure you book your hairstylist and makeup artist well in advance and have trials with both. Be sure to bring pictures of hair and makeup you like to your appointments, as well as your dress, and wedding colors so the stylist or artist can have a better idea of how you want to look on YOUR SPECIAL DAY. That way, come your wedding day you can relax knowing what you'll look like.

On that note, don’t make any drastic changes to yourself immediately preceding your wedding/event. Make sure you have enough time to undo whatever you did if you so choose. Don’t cut, color, or style your hair differently right before your wedding/event because you will hate it. Don’t change products you use for skin care, such as, cleansers, moisturizers, detergents, lotions…what if you have an unknown allergy to one of these new products and end up with a horrible rash? It’s best to avoid change during this time period unless recommended by a doctor.

8. DRINK LOTS OF WATER

By lots, I mean, TONS! Being hydrated will help you look better, feel better, and give you more energy. It also keeps your skin clear and radiant. Try to limit your alcohol and sodium intake right before the wedding/event as well. Alcohol will dehydrate you and sodium will make you bloated. Not good.

9. PREPARE A BEAUTY EMERGENCY KIT

For touch ups and anything that might go wrong, an emergency beauty kit is essential! Be sure to include the following essentials: Bottled water, aspirin, oil blotting papers, band-aids, breath mints, clear nail polish or hairspray for stocking runs, cotton swabs, eye drops, tissues, hairpins, hem tape, nail file, mirrored compact, safety pins, straws, hand towelettes, and quick drying glue. If it is for your wedding, entrust this kit to one of your bridesmaids the day of to keep on her at all times. Be prepared for any surprises so it won’t ruin your special day.

10. GET A MASSAGE

I suggest getting a relaxing and calming massage the morning of your ceremony/event. It’s a great way to prepare for the day ahead.

Top 10 Bride Beauty Tips is a post from: Treatments For Your Skin

Skin Firming Smoothie

Do It Yourself Skin Treatments

Foods for Healthy Skin

Skin Recipes

recipe

skin firming

smoothie

Vitamin C

This tasty skin firming smoothie is packed with antioxidants such as vitamins A, C and E. The great benefits come from the fact that you can be sure there are no harsh unnatural chemicals.

Cleansers are used to wash away pollution, makeup and the days accumulation of grime and dirt from your face. Cleansing is also necessary to help remove and avoid the build up of blackheads, dead skin cells and to help clean pores. If you leave your skin unclean it becomes a perfect breeding ground for pimples and breakouts as oil glands on the skin are clogged up with cellular waste and dirt. Read on for the different variety of natural cleansers available for washing both your face and body.

Oil Based Cleansers

Believe it or not but oil is most effective in helping dissolve and remove impurities on the skin, for centuries women have been cleansing their skin with nut oil on vegetable oils.

If you have mature or dry skin use macadamia nut or olive oil. Use the heavier oils.

If you have oily or combination skin use apricot kernel, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil which is has the effect of balancing out sebum production on oily skin. Stick to lighter oils.

You are probably thinking that if you have oily skin the last thing you want to do is add more oil to it but actually it is alright! Sebum production is balanced when you feed oil to your skin by tricking your skin into believing it has produced enough oil and will stop producing anymore.

Technique: While you skin is still damp massage the oil into the skin with your hands. Immerse a cloth in water 3 times and use it to completely remove oil from face.

Milk Based Cleansers:

Yogurt and milk make great skin cleansers. Sun damage is the worst for skin, always use sunscreen.

Always drink lots of water, beauty comes from the inside! Keep your skin well hydrated.

Mascaras and lipsticks go off after 6 months, be sure to discard these after that time period.

Use a good exfoliator for removing dry skin to create a smooth and clear complexion for applying your foundation and makeup.

Never use heavy makeup in the places where there are fine lines such as around the mouth and under the eyes.

Emphasize the positive features on your face.

Foundation

Before you apply your foundation, it is a good idea to spritz your face with an essential oil spray which not only makes you smell nice but it has a calming effect on your nervous system. You can make your own by mixing 5 mls of pure rose or lavender oil with mineral water in a spray bottle.

Use a makeup primer on your face. Alternatively you can use moisturizer on your face first, especially if your skin is dry. If you have oily skin be sure to use an oil-free moisturizer.

When you buy your foundation to get the exact match always test it on your face and not the back of your hands. Take a small mirror with you and before you purchase the foundation go outside and check how the foundation looks on your skin in natural light.

Use a good quality sponge or brush to apply your foundation.

Mineral makeup is the latest in foundation technology, it is sheer and light. The way mineral foundation works is by layering. Start with a thin sheer cover and keep layering in places that you want more pigment to get a more opaque look and fuller coverage.

Concealer

Be sparing with your use of concealer if you use too much you can make your face look pasty. To cover up blemishes or dark circles grab a flat makeup brush and moisten it, dab the brush on your concealer and then gently and lightly dab the area on your face with the brush. Once that is dry set it with powder.

A green cover stick is great to use for those who have broken capillaries or ruddy complexions. Another trick is to dab a small amount of witch hazel toner on the broken capillaries to temporarily reduce the redness.

If you have freckles try not to use concealer on them as this can make your face look dull and mask like. Opt for a sheer foundation which lets the freckles show through and looks natural.

Tips for Great Natural Makeup – Foundation is a post from: Treatments For Your Skin

Related posts:

Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15

Almay Clear Complexion Blemish Healing Foundation

Top 10 Bride Beauty Tips

Homemade Facial Moisturiser for Oily Skin

Do It Yourself Skin Treatments

Face Creams

Skin Recipes

moisturiser

oily skin

skin

Home made Facial Moisturizer that is great for oily complexions. The reason I am doing this is that like so many of you who are reading this I have various stretch marks in all different parts of my body and I would love to get rid of them. I am also sick of shysters who make money out of people's misery and hope for a solution. When I heard about this method over the Internet after extensive online searching I was never able to find anyone who had posted ongoing results with this exfoliation method and there was never any conclusive evidence that this did or did not work (I am referring to real blogs here not Jean Wu's own testimonials as that is pure and simple marketing material).

Two Months of Stretch Marks Exfoliation Later

So here I am standing almost at the 2 month mark. True to the method I am now exfoliating every 5 days. I will say this about this exfoliation method; it certainly has made my skin feel smoother and softer. But the stretch marks? Well they are still there 100% not one has disappeared not even a little bit and given the right lighting they all glimmer in silvery white lines just like they always have. This is disappointing to me, when I first set out on this journey I had hope but it is somewhat fading as I am starting to realise that the best that can be achieved with this is a smoother skin texture (which is good) and that might be all. My stretch marks are much lighter than my skin tone so they are very obvious and unfortunately that has not changed hardly at all.

So wow, this post is a huge downer! But I will keep going because maybe the case is that as Jean Wu said in her infamous e-book , all I have achieved is to uncover a few layers of skin where the stretch mark is actually worse! well only time will tell...

Jean Wu – Stretch Mark Removal – 2 Months On is a post from: Treatments For Your Skin

Related posts:

Stretch Marks Cure Exfoliation 4 Months Later

Stretch Mark and Exfoliation Method – 1 Month Later

Jean Wu Stretchmark Cure – Over 3 Months
