Keloids are scars that become firm and raised. Keloid scars are usually itchy and painful throughout the healing process as opposed to staying soft and flat like other scars. Keloid formation begins to occur between 4 to 8 weeks after any type of skin injury or if reacting to skin diseases such as acne where much inflammation of the skin takes place.

Keloids can appear anywhere on your body but are more prominent in the chest area, the upper back and over the shoulders. Keloids are affected by age, the risk of developing keloids increases around the age of 12 to 13 and continues to rise through the teens and into your twenties. The risk of developing keloids begin to decrease again in your thirties. But there are some unlucky few who will be prone to keloids all their lives.

It is important to note that keloids scar treatment is more effective when keloids are caught earlier as opposed to ones that have been present for a long time.

Keloid Scar Treatments:

  • Reexcising and then trying to prevent recurrence
  • Injections of potent anti-inflammatory drugs into the scar
  • Laser Treatments
  • Using tape or silicone gel on the scar

I just lately had an industrial piercing on the top section of my ear. I have had this for around 2 months and it still has not healed completely although I can still take the bar out to clean the piercing and my ear. I have noticed lately a white bump forming around the piercing. The bump looks white, at first i thought it was a pimple but nothing comes out of it.I think I will go and get it checked out at the doctor as it might be a keloid. I have had 7 other piercings over my body but this has never happened before.

I have 5 small keloid scars on my shoulder from pimples. I have tried both laser treatments and cortisone injections with no success. The cortisone injections seemed to smooth the out for a few weeks but then they came back. I guess I could just continue to have the injections on an ongoing basis but I haven;t been bothered.

I’ve had 3 knee surgeries, the first of which was in 2004 from a doctor who really didn’t know what he was doing. As a result, I got this huge scar on my knee with 13 little raised scars from the stitches, that I call my football laces. I’m Asian, so I get keloid scars and eventually I just stopped caring about it since I didn’t think there was anything I could do about it.

I had another surgery in 2006 where the doctor removed my old scar (still had the laces), and I again did nothing. My scar started out as thin and much prettier, but because I didn’t take care of it, it eventually spread because of the stretching of the skin while my knee bent.

Third surgery was in January of this year, the doctor removed my scar again and kept the laces, but this time, I’ve decided to take care of this scar.

I started using Strataderm 4 weeks ago and I already see a very noticeable difference! My raised laces have smoothed out and are starting to fade. I’m not kidding. The place where my drain was is healing well and the big scar itself is looking great. It’s not too red or scary, and it’s totally soft and looks like a “normal” scar. I can’t wait to see it in another month or two, the timeframe that Strataderm recommends.

I really recommend this product to anyone who has a new or an old scar. It really does what it promises.

I have a few keloid scars on my back and chest but the one that bothered me most is the one on my jawline. I have been getting steroid injections and have had success with it, the scar on my jaw is flatter and yeah its not gone but it looks so much better

For shiny silvery scars the only products known to remobe this is JanMarini Skynzyme papaya mask & papaya lotion. For keloids plain old Hydrogen peroxide has been know to dissolve keloid scars. Just use a cootton ball over scar everynight until scar is gone. It work for this person who had a keloid on her ear from an ear piercing, she told her friends about it, and they used it on their own keloids & it worked!
